Washington, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association released the following statement honoring Miguel Franco, long-time CHSA member and former CHSA Advisory Board Member, as he departs from Capitol Hill.
“The Congressional Hispanic Staff Association is grateful for Miguel Franco’s dedicated service and contributions to our organization’s mission to advance Latino and Hispanic staffers in Congress. Throughout his time as Chief of Staff for Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29), a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Miguel has been a fierce advocate for young leaders and for greater diversity among senior staff. Our members have benefited greatly from Miguel’s expertise and advice, in particular while he was a member of the inaugural CHSA Advisory Committee in 2019. While the congressional workforce is saying goodbye to an unparalleled leader, we know his work supporting the Latino community is far from over.”
“Miguel is departing his position to begin a new role as Vice President of Government Affairs for Telemundo Enterprises. The Congressional Hispanic Staff Association wishes Miguel well as he begins this new chapter of his career.”
Miguel worked for Congressman Cárdenas for twelve years in various capacities during his time in Congress and on the Los Angeles City Council. As Congressman Cárdenas’ Chief of Staff, he managed the Washington, D.C. and San Fernando Valley offices and oversaw policy matters regarding labor, LGBTQ rights, and Native American tribal matters. While working for the Los Angeles City Council, Miguel oversaw issues related to transportation and economic development, as well as the Port of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports.
Miguel was born and raised in Southern California. He graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a B.A. in Political Science. He is married to Robert Perez and resides in Prince George’s County, Maryland with their three children.
