WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Congressional Hispanic Staff Association (CHSA) and the LGBT Congressional Staff Association (LGBT CSA) proudly recognize the service and contributions of all Latinx LGBTQ staff in Congress. As we come together to commemorate 50 years since the Stonewall Riots, we must collectively, through Pride, continue creating safer spaces for all staff on Capitol Hill. Our solidarity extends to everyone regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. Stonewall was a riot led by black and Latinx trans women against police brutality on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. Every June, we celebrate the history of the Latinx community and its role in the broader LGBTQ struggle in our country and beyond.
For CHSA and the LGBT CSA, Pride month is a time to reflect on the contributions of Latinx-LGBTQ groups that are a crucial part of our shared heritage. Our history is rich with great leaders and activists. It is essential that we keep our histories alive through participation in Pride month and the broader queer liberation movement. CHSA and the LGBT CSA stand in immediate affirmation of our fluid and complex identities in the face of denigration everywhere. This month we will be collaborating on professional development and social networking programs to further our shared mission of diversity and inclusion on Capitol Hill.
