FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 8, 2021

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association released the following statement honoring Marsha Espinosa as she departs from Capitol Hill:

“Marsha Espinosa is a dedicated public servant, a true leader in the D.C. Hispanic community, and a mentor and friend to many on Capitol Hill. Throughout her tenure as a member of CHSA and her time on the CHSA Advisory Committee, she has elevated our entire organization and brought us closer to securing the ideals we fight for. We owe her a debt of gratitude for her nonstop advocacy for Latinx staffers at all levels in Congress. As Chief of Staff for Rep. Linda Sánchez, Marsha led by example in building a diverse and inclusive workplace. She never hesitated to mentor Latinx staff, share her expertise and guidance with our membership, or make herself available to us when we needed her most. We will never forget the lessons she taught us and her steady hand. We wish her the best as she returns to the Executive Branch and know she will continue making CHSA proud.

“Marsha Espinosa has started a new role as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.”

Marsha (Catron) Espinosa is a long-time government and communications professional in Washington D.C. and most recently served as the Chief of Staff to Rep. Linda Sánchez. Previously, she co-founded a consulting firm specializing in crisis communications and prime time prep. She has also served as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs under President Obama and spent several years working on Capitol Hill for California members Senator Dianne Feinstein and Reps. Linda Sánchez and Nanette Diaz-Barragan. A proud “Nuevo Mexicana,” she started her career in communications working for then-Governor Bill Richardson and later on his 2008 presidential campaign. Espinosa graduated from New Mexico State University and received a Masters of Arts in Communication Studies from Texas State University.
